Samsung revises its plans in the face of Apple's folding iPhone
Apple is banking on a crease-free screen to make a big impact by 2026!
Rumors surrounding Apple's foldable iPhone are gaining momentum every month. Imagine a smartphone with no visible creases on the screen, unlike current models on the market. The Cupertino company is aiming to achieve just that perfection for its upcoming foldable device, scheduled for 2026.
This quest for excellence is confirmed today by a significant financial announcement . This is a major investment made by Fine M-Tec, a key supplier in the folding screen production chain.
Ming-Chi Kuo has announced today via a publication that the Apple supplier has just made a 17.5 billion Korean won investment to develop its high-precision laser processing capabilities.
Cutting-edge technology to eliminate creases
Fine M-Tec's investment, which will run from July 2025 to January 2027 , confirms analyst Ming-Chi Kuo's predictions that Apple's stringent requirements for crease-free manufacturing would accelerate the adoption of laser drilling for the production of metal display plates.
Note that this laser drilling technology allows for the manufacture of special metal plates for displays. These plates are crucial for achieving a perfectly flat surface once the device is unfolded. The foldable iPhone could thus display a 7.8-inch screen without any visible fold marks.
This news aligns with previous rumors suggesting a foldable iPhone with a flawless 7.8-inch display. Apple appears to be favoring a book-style design over a clamshell model like the Galaxy Z Flip. The release is still slated for late 2026 or early 2027, giving Cupertino time to fine-tune every detail.
Samsung forced to adapt to Apple threat
Faced with the expected arrival of the foldable iPhone, Samsung is already preparing its response. The Korean giant will also adopt laser-drilled metal plates for its Galaxy Z Fold 8, while the Galaxy Z Fold 7 has only just been released.
Let's be clear, though, that it was Apple that paved the way for this type of flawless screen , because the Z Fold 8 will probably be released before the folding iPhone.
This strategic decision by Samsung illustrates the impact Apple can have on the market even before its product launches. With these massive investments in production technology, the foldable iPhone seems destined for great success.
