iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max: 3 things to know before their release
Apple is set to launch new iPhones in a few weeks. But what will be the main new features?
Apple is expected to unveil new iPhones sometime in September . As is the case every year, the Pro and Pro Max models are expected to be the most powerful. These two devices are highly anticipated, and rumors about them are endless.
While some analysts are focusing on the aesthetic changes Apple has made this year, others are going further and already looking inside the smartphone. While no one has seen an official rendering yet, the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max no longer hold any secrets for these experts. Here are their three predictions for this year.
A brand new back
From the front, no major changes are expected. Apple is expected to keep the same design for its iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. It's only by turning the phone over that it will be recognizable. The Apple brand is reportedly banking on a new camera unit. The three sensors will retain their iconic triangular arrangement, but they will be enclosed within a large, much more impressive "bar."
For now, the camera bump on iPhones only occupies a square in the top left corner of the device. This won't be the case this year with the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max. The Cupertino company has reportedly decided to introduce a large "bar" running horizontally across the phone. Similar to what Google might do on its Pixel devices.
An unexpected color
Still on the design front, Apple could be taking a bit of a risk this year. While the iPhone Pro and Pro Max have historically been very "traditional" in terms of color options, Apple could be taking a gamble. In recent weeks, several rumors have mentioned the arrival of an orange color .
According to Sonny Dickson, the Pro and Pro Max models will be entitled to this color, dubbed "Dark Gold" by Apple. It would accompany more conventional models, black, gray, and white.
New chips
The last important point to keep in mind before the release of the iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max is the possible addition of new chips to the phone. If the processor were to evolve, as it does every year, the A19 Pro chip will retain a 3-nanometer process. So, don't expect a stratospheric increase in performance.
Ultimately, it's the modems that might be the most interesting parts. Apple already introduced "C1" earlier this year with the iPhone 16. Could this 5G modem, developed internally since 2020, make its way to the iPhone 17 Pro? Some say yes, while others continue to rely on parts produced by Qualcomm.
Finally, experts believe that Apple has already had time to fix its chip, and we should expect a C2 modem in the next iPhones. Another, much more uncertain, rumor is that Apple could launch its first chip for Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. So far, it uses processors supplied by BroadCom, but the contract with Apple ended a few months ago.
Additionally, we know that Apple wants to regain control over the production of several components within its products. The arrival of this "in-house" chip could be the beginning of a great adventure. It should be rolled out over the next year across the entire range, from the Apple Watch to the Mac to the iPad.
